Tips from the Experts at Simply Better Moving

When it comes to moving, few things cause more stress than packing delicate items like glassware, electronics, or family heirlooms. At Simply Better Moving, we’ve helped hundreds of customers safely relocate their most fragile belongings — and we’re sharing our top tips so you can do the same.
Whether you’re packing up an apartment in Austin or a home in Round Rock, here’s how to protect your valuables like a pro.
1. Start with the Right Supplies
Don’t skimp on quality when it comes to packing materials. You’ll need:
Sturdy boxes (small to medium size for heavier items)
Bubble wrap
Packing paper or newspaper
Packing tape
Foam sheets or peanuts
Markers for labeling
Pro tip: Avoid overusing large boxes. Heavy fragile items packed together can shift and break.
2. Wrap Each Item Individually
Every glass, plate, or decorative item should be wrapped one at a time. Use packing paper or bubble wrap generously, especially around sharp corners or delicate edges.
Plates: Stack them vertically like vinyl records.
Glasses: Stuff the inside with paper, then wrap the outside.
Electronics: Use original boxes when available, or cushion with foam.
3. Layer and Cushion the Box
Before placing anything in the box:
Add a layer of crumpled paper or foam to the bottom.
Place heavier items on the bottom and lighter ones on top.
Fill empty spaces with soft materials so nothing shifts in transit.
This cushioning acts as shock absorption for bumps in the road.
4. Seal and Label Clearly
Once packed, seal the box with strong packing tape — not masking tape. Label the box “FRAGILE” on multiple sides and indicate which side should face up.
Bonus tip: List the contents briefly on the outside so unloading is easier.
5. Leave It to the Pros (If You’d Rather Not Risk It)
Not everyone wants to DIY the delicate stuff — and that’s where we come in. At Simply Better Moving, we bring the right tools, packing materials, and experience to handle fragile items with care. Whether it’s grandma’s china, a flatscreen TV, or an antique mirror, we treat your belongings like our own.
